Local Church - Global Welcome

Revd Matt Powell from Lister Hill Baptist Church, Horsforth, Leeds has sent in the following news about a recent event at their church:

“Sharon Shek (Project Coordinator - Hong Kong Response Project, Baptist Union) approached the YBA a few months ago to see if any Leeds churches would be interested in hosting a worship and prayer event for families from Hong Kong. As we have had a few families from Hong Kong join us recently it seemed the right time to host this event. 

It was such a moving time to see many families (younger and older) come and spend an afternoon in worship and prayer. To worship in a different language was really moving and taught me something special about worship that day. I started by sharing something from 1 Samuel and was told later that the speaker also referred to that passage. God had laid something on both our hearts for that afternoon.

It was special to share communion as well and to see the joy of God's people coming together and sharing together is a memory I will hold onto.

The families from Hong Kong in our church were really blessed by having this opportunity and we look forward to supporting this amazing group and want to thank Sharon for her heart and vision to bring families from Hong Kong together. It is great to know we have got the support to help care for our families in a way that will be helpful to them.

I am so thankful for having this opportunity and I thank the YBA and Sharon for approaching us - you have brought us much joy.”
