Fruits of mission on the Frontline

THE YBA is partnering with LICC (London Institute for Contemporary Christianity) to offer its associating churches the chance to come together and explore whole life partnership and look at what it means to live out discipleship in the places and communities we are in.
Already we are seeing the fruits of working together in partnership.

Mexborough Baptist Church and Maltby Baptist Church

DENISE Lancaster, Pastor at Mexborough Baptist Church, writes: "At Mexborough we are working our way through LICC Fruitfulness on the Frontline. Who needs a sermon when we're sharing frontline stories, and are eager to do so most Sundays?

Mexborough frontlinesThe series is impacting our lives, and we are growing in confidence to go and tell, go and share Jesus wherever we are and whatever we are doing on our frontlines - working in an office, refuse collecting, managing a leisure centre, looking after grandchildren, supporting a poorly relative or neighbour, community cafe, toddler group, Scouts, hours of volunteering and so on.
The series is so easy to plan, work through and follow and suitable on all levels to understand and apply to our lives.
Last week we were thinking about culture, being salt and light wherever we are and whatever we're doing. We sang a song called 'A little bit of salt', by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette, set to the tune of 'The God of Abraham Praise'.
The words summed up and concluded our heartfelt response,  it was a topic of conversation over refreshments after the service and during the week whenever we met together.
During the next few weeks, we are doing the 5 LICC Frontline Sundays. Yesterday's 1st Frontline Sunday was about 'All the difference'.
Everyone in church received a red dots drinks coaster, to remind us that as we scatter outside the church on our frontlines we really do make all the difference. We mapped out (with red pins) on an OS map where we are each scattered every day of the week.
We considered 1 Peter 1:1-2  where Peter refers to the people of God as the 'elect' and 'exiles', reminding us that though we may seem small and scattered, wherever we are and whatever we're doing, we're making a difference in the world on our frontlines for Jesus and his kingdom.
We concluded our time together with another hymn, written by Gloria Gaither and set to Finlandia: 'I then shall live as one who's been forgiven'."
