Lent 2018

Lent 2018 logoREGIONAL Minister the Revd Mary Taylor writes: "An incredibly precious pearl, a grain of wheat, a little child. Jesus told many stories to help us imagine and live towards God’s dream for our world. He called it ‘the Kingdom’.
"There are other pictures from the Old Testament prophets – lions and lambs in a good relationship, children free from the constraints of health and safety to play with a family of adders and happy laughter in the streets of the city. And in John’s vision we see God, as the source of light, rivers of living water, clear as crystal and trees with leaves that heal the woes of the world.
"Jesus lived and died to bring this vision into being. He died to set us free to see and celebrate and act now as citizens of the coming Kingdom; as Easter People.
"For our focus in Lent 2018 we have chosen to accompany Jesus towards his cross and resurrection by practising this kind of living. This is especially about how we live together, learning the ways of peace and building the Shalom of God."

How?

"Every week we will focus on one of 6 habits – ways of thinking and acting which are characteristic of Easter People. These are habits of hope, listening with our hearts, practising humility, speaking with loving truth, loving our enemies and living generously.
"An urban myth says you need to do something for 21 days to form a habit; research-based evidence says the average is 66 days.  Whatever it is, we are praying for ourselves and for you that the Holy Spirit will form powerful Easter habits in us that change our church communities and the world around us. "

40acts"If you want to have something to prompt you every day to form Easter habits and live peacefully and generously, we suggest signing up to the 40 acts website and receiving a daily reminder of the many ways in which God can use us to ‘live the Kingdom dream’. Hear this story from 40 acts.

Share your stories at church and with us, make a video on your phone, or paint a picture, so that we can celebrate and learn more about being creative Easter People."
